Connecting people and cultures:
Educated in the US and Japan, I have always been fascinated by diverse cultures. The biggest passion I have in my role is meeting and engaging with people from various countries and filling in gaps in cultural communication.
As PR Director of global corporate communication, my mission is to convey our untold stories in an authentic way that resonates with international audiences. Producing press releases and articles for both the Japanese and global media is challenging because the protocols and contexts are so different. Just a few years ago, all of our news came out in Japanese and was translated into English and Chinese, but now we are producing original content to better reflect cultural nuances and contexts. I also manage our English social media accounts to engage with our global audience.
When I started my career at Hakuhodo in account service three decades ago, we were barely known outside Japan. Now we are the world’s third largest ad agency and were named Network of the Year at ADFEST 2021. I am proud of the part I have been able to play in revamping our global website to showcase our people, work and offices, developing our brand personality as a world-class agency network, and connecting our growing international family of talent and clients.
Although online communication is the norm in business these days, I look forward to connecting with people face to face. Until we can see each other in person, keep safe and keep talking.
